PCI condemns Bangladesh official’s remarks against Indian journos

The Press Club of India (PCI) has strongly condemned comments made by Shafiqul Alam, official spokesperson of the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s government, who referred to reporters from India and abroad as “Western journalists and their Indian bootlicking counterparts.”
In a Facebook post on November 11, 2025, Alam made the remarks while referring to journalists who recently interviewed former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The PCI said such comments were “especially reprehensible,” noting that Alam himself is a former journalist. “To describe professionals from responsible media outlets pursuing a genuine news story as ‘bootlicking’ journalists is certainly not expected from a person in a responsible position,” the PCI stated.
