The Kulgam Working Journalists Association (KWJA) has elected its new executive body during an election held at Town Hall Kulgam, with journalists from across the district participating in the voting process. According to the election committee, senior journalist Khurshid Padroo was elected as the 8th President of the association, while Umaisar Gull was unanimously chosen as the General Secretary. Formed in 2007, when Kulgam was declared a separate district, KWJA has been committed to promoting professional, ethical, and collaborative journalism in the region. The association said that an oath-taking ceremony will be held separately in Kulgam, where the remaining office-bearers will be formally inducted, Kashmir News Service reported.

The Press Club of India (PCI) has strongly condemned comments made by Shafiqul Alam, official spokesperson of the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s government, who referred to reporters from India and abroad as “Western journalists and their Indian bootlicking counterparts.” In a Facebook post on November 11, 2025, Alam made the remarks while referring to journalists who recently interviewed former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The PCI said such comments were “especially reprehensible,” noting that Alam himself is a former journalist. “To describe professionals from responsible media outlets pursuing a genuine news story as ‘bootlicking’ journalists is certainly not expected from a person in a responsible position,” the PCI stated. The organisation called on Alam to withdraw his remarks and issue a public apology, emphasising that such language undermines journalistic dignity and the spirit of press freedom.

A three-day national workshop titled “Safety, Legal Empowerment, and Gender-Responsive Protection of Journalists in India” commenced in Bengaluru this week, jointly organised by UNESCO, the Indian Journalists Union (IJU), and the Karnataka Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ). It's all about Net Zero today and whether the Liberals will announce they are doing away with the aspiration by 2050 to get to a point where the country reaches the state in which the greenhouse gases going into the atmosphere are balanced by removal out of the atmosphere. Typically this could be done - in theory - by switching as much as possible over to electric power which in turn is produced by non-fossil fuels. Oh, and growing more carbon-sucking trees. Coalition partners the Nationals have already dumped any aims along those lines, at least by a set date, and the Liberals are split.
