Hackers target journalist, compromise ministers’ WhatsApp networks in Hyderabad

A journalist’s phone was allegedly hacked in Hyderabad on Sunday, triggering a wider breach of WhatsApp groups operated by public relations officers of state Ministers. The incident has raised serious concerns about digital security and the vulnerability of official communication channels.
According to Telangana Today, the attack began when cybercriminals posing as representatives of the State Bank of India (SBI) sent an APK file to the journalist, claiming it was for Aadhaar update services. Once the journalist unknowingly interacted with the malicious file, the hackers gained access to his WhatsApp account and contacts.
Using the compromised account, the attackers forwarded the same APK file to multiple WhatsApp groups linked to Ministers, including one associated with Deputy Chief...
