Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy on Sunday called for a globally coordinated policy on the use of Artificial Intelligence in journalism, stressing that ethical safeguards are essential to protect public trust. She was speaking at the closing ceremony of the 9th National Media Conclave held at the KIMS Auditorium. Padhy said AI can strengthen newsrooms but must operate under strict human oversight. Following the incident, the Puducherry Print and Journalist Association lodged a complaint at the Villianur police station. Based on the complaint, police registered a case against three party members, including Seeman, under Sections 296(b) for obscene acts, 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt, and 351(2) for criminal intimidation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, The News Minute reported. Influencing earlier reported that the Chennai Press Club condemned the incident and urged the Puducherry Police to take action against Seeman for allegedly misbehaving with a journalist. It also called for strict action against NTK workers who reportedly manhandled media personnel during the press interaction.

The accused have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh of Mandola village in Charkhi Dadri and Gaurav Taneja of Rohtak. Sukhwinder Singh, who is on bail in the 2022 Sonali Phogat murder case, was among those involved in the attack, The Tribune reported. The incident took place on November 22, when a male journalist was allegedly beaten up by a group of men while covering a rave party raid conducted by the Gurugram Police on Saturday morning. Among the assaulters was Sukhwinder Sangvan, the prime accused in the Sonali Phogat case. According to the FIR, the journalist and his cameraperson had accompanied the Gurugram Police during the raid on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday after receiving information about a rave party being held at a local café. Journalist Sutapa Guha has stressed that high-quality training programmes for media professionals are the need of the hour. Her remarks come after she attended a three-day national workshop in Bengaluru organised by UNESCO, the Indian Journalists Union and the Karnataka Union of Working Journalists to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Impunity for Crimes against Journalists. The workshop brought together journalists from various states, with around 40 participants taking part in the sessions. The training focused on journalist safety, legal capacity building, digital security, fact-checking and gender-sensitive protection.
