Odisha Assembly speaker calls for global AI policy in journalism

Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy on Sunday called for a globally coordinated policy on the use of Artificial Intelligence in journalism, stressing that ethical safeguards are essential to protect public trust. She was speaking at the closing ceremony of the 9th National Media Conclave held at the KIMS Auditorium.
Padhy said AI can strengthen newsrooms but must operate under strict human oversight. Transparency about AI-generated content, she noted, is crucial as technological shifts blur traditional boundaries in the media ecosystem. She also recalled the journalistic contributions of former Chief Minister Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab.
