In an era flooded with visuals and algorithmic feeds, the camera remains a potent instrument of truth. But as smartphones blur the line between creator and consumer, photojournalism is undergoing a quiet transformation, one that demands not just speed, but integrity, context and consent.
T. Vijay, a photojournalist with Ananda Vikatan, is among those adapting to this evolving landscape. “I capture only what aligns with my purpose,” he says, describing how he avoids photographing scenes that do not add meaning or show respect to the subject. For Vijay, ethics are not a checklist but a daily practice, seeking consent where necessary, and making editorial decisions in real time.
“During public events like political rallies or emergencies, consent may not be feasible, but even then, I document responsibly,” he adds.
He recalls a moment that shaped his career—a ride from Masinagudi to Ooty nearly 15 years ago, when he passed a dead monkey on the road, killed by a speeding veh

SEBI uncovers pump-and-dump operation in Sadhna Broadcast case
By Neeraja Gopalakrishnan in Media News on Tuesday, 03rd June 2025 at 1:39pm
SEBI has barred multiple individuals and entities from the securities market after exposing a pump-and-dump scheme involving Sadhna Broadcast Ltd (SBL). The investigation, led by Whole Time Member Ashwani Bhatia, found that a group of connected and popular "finflluencers" alllegedly manipulated the stock’s price and volume through synchronised trading and misleading YouTube videos.
Between April and July 2022, SBL’s stock rose from Rs 2.50 to Rs 13.05 without any fundamental justification. SEBI concluded the spike was driven by false promotions on YouTube channels such as “The Advisor” and “Moneywise,” which falsely claimed major investor interest.
Actor Arshad Warsi, his wife and his brother were allegedly found to have traded SBL shares under the direction of Manish Mishra, identified as the scheme’s key architect. WhatsApp messages and fund transfers confirmed coordinated activity, while Warsi’s manager admitted knowledge of the manipulation.
