As reported by Hindustan Times’ Surjit Singh, Badal narrowly escaped when a man fired at him during his religious penance at the Golden Temple. His act of repentance, which included cleaning toilets, was in response to the Akal Takht’s religious punishment for “sins” during his tenure as Punjab CM, a period marked by allegations of corruption, heavy-handed governance, and a perceived betrayal of Sikh values.
