A new newspaper, India Unboxed, launched in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday, August 7, positioning investigative journalism, hard news and people-centric reporting as its core focus. The launch took place at Daria Hill in the presence of IPR Director Gijum Tali, Printing and Stationery Deputy Director Heri Maring, East Kameng Zilla Parishad Chairperson Pai Pizi Yangfo, and community leader Khya Safar Pao. The publication will also operate as a digital news platform, with an emphasis on ground reporting and efforts to draw younger readers back to newspapers. Founder Ram Tajo told Influencing that the newspaper was launched at a time when digital and audiovisual platforms have significantly changed how people consume news, and that India Unboxed aims to bring both older and younger readers back to print while maintaining factual and ethical journalism. The Goa government has increased the monthly pension for eligible journalists from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 with immediate effect. The revision was made through an amendment to the Goa State Working Journalist Welfare Scheme 2021-22. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced the hike while presenting the State Budget 2026-27. Under the revised scheme, both pensioners and family pensioners will receive Rs 15,000 per month. The government said the move aims to strengthen welfare support for media professionals.

The Chennai Press Club has strongly condemned the registration of a criminal case against senior journalist and Nakkheeran magazine editor Nakkheeran Gopal, calling it an attempt to suppress freedom of expression and intimidate the media. In a statement issued on Friday, the press club said the Chennai Cyber Crime Police had registered a case against Gopal under Sections 352, 353(1)(b), and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) over comments he made about Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay during a YouTube interview. It noted that two of the charges are non-bailable.
