The Cyber Police Station in Bihar’s Siwan district has issued an emergency notice to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), seeking the removal of several posts related to the alleged mob lynching of 25-year-old Shahzad Ali, a Muslim youth. The notice, dated June 1, cited content as “objectionable, misleading and fact-less” with potential to disturb law and order. It was issued under Section 79(3)(B) of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and Section 94 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). According to police, viral posts carried implications for public order, including possible threats to life and property. Among the cited posts was one by journalist Meer Faisal, Founder Editor of The Observer Post, who shared a photograph alleging that a police officer could be seen smiling near Shahzad Ali’s body.
