The Tripura Sports Journalists’ Club (TSJC) felicitated outstanding sportspersons from the state at its annual sports awards ceremony held on Friday at Abhishek Restaurant in Agartala. Veteran bodybuilder and sports organiser Dilip Bhattacharjee was conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award for his long-standing contribution to sports in Tripura. He has also served as Secretary of the Tripura Weightlifting and Gymnastics Association. TSJC also announced Best Sportsperson of the Year awards across six disciplines. The awardees include Shreyanshi Roy (Gymnastics), Parvez Bhuiya (Football), Riju Saha (Cricket), Rickson Debbarma (Judo), Shakya Singh Modak (Chess), and Dr. Bishal Sinha (Bodybuilding). Awards for Shreyanshi Roy and Riju Saha will be presented later as they are currently out of the state. BBC News has won three honours at the WAN-IFRA Digital Media Awards South Asia 2026, taking home two Gold Awards and one Silver for projects produced by Collective Newsroom. The awards recognised the organisation's work across three editorial categories: countering disinformation, data visualisation and audio storytelling. The Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) has asked the state government to step in after Zee Malayalam dismissed 12 journalists without prior notice, a move the union has condemned as an unlawful mass layoff that breaches labour law.
