Internship opportunities are now more visible than ever, particularly on platforms like LinkedIn, where media organisations regularly invite applications from aspiring journalists. This growing demand challenges the long-standing belief that journalism offers limited career prospects. As newsrooms adapt to digital transformation, global developments, and evolving storytelling formats, journalism remains closely tied to real-world events and public discourse, opening new pathways for young professionals. India’s newsroom internship culture is expanding in scale and significance. According to an I

FOURTH RIGHT: On Times Group CEO’s clarification and the future of print business

By Pradeep Damodaran in Media News on
Image edited by Dinesh Raj M   Putting to rest rumours of a potential sale of the Times of India Group, Bennett, Coleman and Co Ltd (BCCL), to a large Indian conglomerate, Sivakumar Sundaram, CEO and Executive Director of BCCL, clarified earlier this week that the rumours were “entirely and unequivocally false,” after they gained traction through social media forwards and messaging platforms. “The Times of India Group’s stakeholders remain fully committed to this institution, to independent journalism, and to you. That commitment is not changing,” the note said, according to media reports. While this has put the current rumours to rest much to the relief of scores of journalists and non-journalist staff working with the group, there are still concerns brewing among employees and industry observers although recent financial disclosures by the group show a healthy growth. Speculation over the future of one of India's largest media houses beg

The Wire’s Instagram account briefly blocked in India over satirical cartoon

By Staff Writer in Media News on
The Wire’s Instagram account was blocked in India for nearly two hours on Monday, February 9, following the posting of a satirical cartoon critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The digital news outlet said a “confusion” allegedly led to the temporary takedown of its main account, followed by 1.3 million users, though only a single video cartoon was meant to be restricted. Access to the account was restored by 8.30 pm, but the cartoon remains inaccessible. Facebook has also blocked the same cartoon in India. Users attempting to open The Wire’s Instagram page during the disruption saw a message stating the account was “not available in India” due to compliance with a legal request. However, the account remained visible to users accessing from outside India or via VPN. The Wire has written to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Meta, which owns Instagram, seeking an explanation for what it called a random takedown without prior notice.
