New Odisha secretariat access rule draws protest from journalists

Accredited journalists in Odisha have opposed a new Home Department rule requiring a separate entry pass to access Lok Seva Bhavan, the state secretariat in Bhubaneswar.
Previously, accreditation cards issued after government verification were sufficient for entry. Under the new rule, journalists must additionally apply for an annual pass from the Home Department.
"When the Mohan Charan Majhi government came to power, many of the restrictions imposed by the previous government were withdrawn. Now, a fresh rule requiring accredited journalists to obtain another pass from the Home Department has been introduced," said Prasanna Kumar Mohanty, senior journalist and Odisha Union of Journalists president.
