Madras High Court grants conditional bail to Savukku Shankar in attempt to murder case
By Staff Writer in Media News on Monday, 18th May 2026 at 9:01pmAccording to TNM, the case was registered after an alleged incident involving a police officer while Shankar was being transported from Ongole to Puzhal prison following his arrest in a cheating and extortion case. Police alleged that Shankar and others attacked a Sub-Inspector and pelted stones at him.
Shankar denied the allegations, claiming the case was fabricated to detain him under the Tamil Nadu Goondas Act. The prosecution opposed bail, citing 48 pending criminal cases against him.
Justice Victoria Gowri directed Shankar to furnish a Rs 25,000 bond with two sureties, appear before the police daily, and cooperate with the investigation. The court clarified that its observations were limited to the bail plea and would not affect the ongoing probe.
