Graney earns Weber Shandwick/Jack Morton leadership role

Helen Graney (photo credit: Weber Shandwick/Jack Morton)Helen Graney (pictured) has been appointed group managing director of both communications firm Weber Shandwick and brand-experience agency Jack Morton.

Graney has been with Jack Morton for the past 20 years, working her way from account director to client services director and MD for Australia. She was chosen to captain both companies as part of an initiative to increase client collaborations and access to services. The promotion was also structured due to both Weber Shandwick and Jack Morton’s close proximity and with reference to the Interpublic Group’s “Open Architecture” initiative.

Ian Rumsby, Weber Shandwick’s chairman for Australia operations and the APAC strategy chief, will work alongside Graney. Rumsby is also the regional lead for United Minds, Weber Shandwick’s global management consultancy specialising in transformation. Weber Shandwick APAC CEO Baxter Jolly and Jack Morton vice-chairman/President International Julian Pullan will be her immediate superiors.

Although Graney is in charge of both Weber Shandwick and Jack Morton, they will still remain separate entities.

Baldwin Boyle Group earns new accounts

The Australian arm of communications consultancy Baldwin Boyle Group has three new clients to work with.

The first client, water technology firm ZIP Water, will have Baldwin Boyle running its internal and external corporate communications. ZIP produces a line of tapware for home and commercial functions. 

For WINConnect, Baldwin Boyle will be in charge of PR for media, general audiences, and government clients. WINConnect offers network solutions for internet, power, and water systems at multi-unit communities.

Pental Ltd is the third new client. Baldwin Boyle will collaborate with Pental management on generating more awareness of the company’s home and hygiene product brands, such as The Australian Country Life body soap and Huggie laundry fluid.

Wunderman Thompson lands Victorian Government gig

Wunderman Thompson’s Melbourne office has secured a three-year contract with the Victorian Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS).

The new deal calls for Wunderman Thompson to spearhead the DJCS’ Fire Season Campaign, which will educate residents on the dangers of bushfires and grassfires, especially as the summer season sets in. 

The DJCS and Wunderman Thompson will liaise with state agencies such as Emergency Management Victoria, the Country Fire Authority, and the Metropolitan Fire Brigade in the execution of the campaign.

Dialogue PR scores new accounts

Dialogue PR+Communications is kicking off October with three new clients, reported Mumbrella.

The first client, Accolade Wines, has tasked Dialogue to run PR and communications strategy, content development, and media relations for its entire product line. 

Dialogue PR will develop and execute a campaign for home tech products by lighting and electrical supplies vendor HPM. 

Porsche Centre Willoughby, meanwhile, is tapping Dialogue PR to promote its 50th anniversary celebrations. The dealership is taking advantage of the opportunity to introduce six limited-edition cars, including special anniversary versions of the 911 decked in liveries developed with the help of Porsche’s Exclusive Manufaktur customisation team.

New staff in at History Will Be Kind

Integrated agency History Will Be Kind has brought new hires into the talent pool.

Lené Ferris joins the team as account director. She recently stepped down from a similar post at Mango Communications, where she started as account manager two years ago.

Heidi Rose takes up a senior account manager position, bringing with her a decade of experience across six agencies, the most recent being at Dialogue PR + Communications as account director. She will be tasked on influencer relations and best practice media. 

British expat Alice Cooke is a new account manager. She has been in Australia for a year working at Fuel Communications as senior account manager. In the UK, she had worked with agencies such as Franklin Rae, the DDA Group, and Zero Degrees West, handling entertainment accounts.

DEC PR earns Mable account

Business and consumer PR agency DEC PR has won representation for digital profit-for-purpose firm Mable, reported B and T.

The new deal calls for DEC PR to handle all of Mable’s PR activities. Mable aids older Australians and persons with disability to link up with independent support personnel from around the country. 

Mable’s enlistment of DEC PR came amidst a business expansion, with three executives coming in.

Weber Shandwick hires new APAC healthcare boss

Communications and marketing agency Weber Shandwick has chosen Naomi Mermod as its new APAC healthcare chief. 

The new post is also an EVP-level job. She will now be in charge of the healthcare team across Weber Shandwick’s 12 offices in the region. 

Mermod sports over 25 years of marketing communications experience, with 14 of them under Shire Hall in London, from an account director to managing director of Shire Hall’s later evolution as Ogilvy HealthWorld. She had recently exited the communications and public affairs post at Janssen APAC. 

“Naomi’s reputation as a solutions-orientated sector expert makes her the ideal fit for our business. The Comms Department hires Hickson

PR agency The Comms Department has tapped Michael Hickson as its new corporate communications manager, effective 7 October.

Having recently stepped down from a similar post at SBS, Hickson will run The Comms Department’s high-profile media, entertainment, travel and lifestyle clients, with ARN as the first assignment. 

Hickson has over 12 years’ experience, including account director positions at Borkowki (now Beige) and PREMIER, plus publicity manager for Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother.
