Today's story isn't about whether The Washington Post is “throwing out” its India staff. It isn’t. Not yet. It’s a story about power, optics and what happens when global journalism collides with shrinking balance sheets and fragile political ecosystems.
The Post is preparing to cut between 100 and 300 newsroom jobs, possibly as early as February 2026. That’s over 10 per cent of its editorial workforce. Foreign bureaus, including New Delhi, are firmly in the firing line. And for once, journalists aren’t whispering in corridors or drafting polite internal memos. They’ve gone public. Loudly.
