Devarshi Narad Jayanti Awardee Nava Thakuria calls for restoring credibility in journalism

Senior journalist and Ishan Darpan editor Nava Thakuria, who will be honoured with the Devarshi Narad Jayanti Award 2026, has said that restoring credibility must be the top priority for Indian journalism at a time when traditional media faces growing challenges from social media and alternative platforms.
Speaking ahead of the award ceremony organised by Vishwa Samvad Kendra (VSK) Assam, Thakuria reflected on the profession’s limited financial rewards and social privileges: “Every award given to a journalist is a real inspiration because the profession gives very little money, less security and limited privileges in society.”
