At a time when AI chatbots produce health information no one can fully trust, a Chennai not-for-profit has taken a different path. The Honeybee Population Healthcare Foundation (HPHF) has soft-launched HIVE (Healthcare Intelligence and Verification Engine), a platform built to do what a generic chatbot cannot: deliver health information that is grounded in a patient's own medical records, aligned with the clinical reasoning of their treating doctor, informed by current evidence-based guidelines, and rigorously verified rather than merely generated.
Most AI tools draw their answers from the open internet, where reliable evidence and misinformation often coexist. HIVE is designed to work the other way around. It draws on four kinds of evidence: published medical literature and other public-domain sources; expert guidance across medical specialities; the latest protocols from national and global health agencies; and, most importantly, the patient's own history and the clinical reasoning of the doctor treating them. It weighs these together to support a decision that a clinician can trust.
HIVE is built for the people who deliver care: doctors, clinics and hospitals, and through them, their patients. It is designed to complement the systems a provider already uses rather than replace them, and individuals are never charged to use it.
HIVE is the work of Dr. Viduthalai Virumbi Balagurusamy, founder of HPHF and a physician whose career spans private clinics, multispecialty hospitals, medical colleges and occupational health, alongside public health, large-scale digital health programmes, mass gatherings, and disaster and pandemic response. An epidemiologist trained at ICMR-NIE, he spent more than fifteen years in public health, where, with the Government of Tamil Nadu and National Health Mission teams, he helped architect the Population Health Registry, the digital backbone of the state's doorstep healthcare programme for non-communicable diseases, Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam, and supported its COVID-19 state war room. He stepped away from government service in November 2025 to devote himself full-time to HIVE.
In his comments, Dr. Viduthalai, said: "Where most systems stop at generating or recording information, HIVE is built to verify it, to confirm that an answer rests on trustworthy evidence and, ultimately, that the right care reaches the patient. The foundation describes this as the essence of decision intelligence: not more data, but information clinicians can act on with confidence."
He added, "For years, I watched good medicine held back by the same problem. On one side, valuable health data sits in hospital and government systems that cannot turn it into a decision. On the other, AI tools generate answers no one can fully trust. HIVE closes that gap, grounding every answer in verified evidence and in the patient's own doctor, so that information becomes something a clinician can rely on. A record tells you something was meant to happen. We want to prove it did."
HPHF is piloting HIVE at select clinics and small hospitals, where it supports doctors and the patients they treat. The foundation plans a product launch within six months, beginning with CGR, a Clinical Governance and Research solution for hospitals and clinics, delivered through Andiran Healthtech, a for-profit subsidiary of HPHF. CGR is designed to help providers make the safety and quality of their care visible and accountable, and to support clinical research with reliable, verified information drawn from everyday practice.
HPHF's stated aim is a future in which every community, regardless of geography or income, has access to reliable information, timely action and better outcomes.
