NRL & Boxing legend Anthony Mundine will release the song he recorded in 2006 with indigenous musician Archie Roach called 'Took the Children Away' about the stolen generation. The song will be released on Australia Day - known as Survival Day in indigenous communities - on 26th of January 2026 and will be available for pre-order from tomorrow on all music platforms.

 

The song was first released by Roach in 1990 before Anthony and Archie re-recorded it as a collaboration in 2006 however the song was never released until now. 

 

Says Anthony, "I'm over the moon to receive the blessing from Auntie Myrtle Roach Austin and the family to release the song and I can't wait for everyone to hear it and learn about the past and the truth." 

 

Mundine is one of the most recognisable athletes in Australia and has made a name for himself as an Indigenous affairs advocate, and for promoting sport for kids. 

In 1993, Mundine signed with the St.George Dragons as an eighteen-year-old before commencing his boxing career which spanned from 2000 to 2021.

During this time, he held World Championships in the WBA super-middleweight title twice between 2003 and 2008. He also held the World Champion IBO middleweight title from 2009 to 2010, and the World Champion WBC interim super-welterweight title from 2011 to 2012.

A devout Muslim, Anthony's speaking topics include Boxing, Rugby League, and Indigenous Affairs.

Anthony is the son of former Champion professional boxer Tony Mundine and hails from the Bundjalung people of northern coastal areas of New South Wales.
