Dr Eranki: Ozempic’s unexpected side effect: the rise of the turkey neck generation

Announcement posted by Invigorate PR 18 Nov 2025

The global surge in Ozempic and other similar product use is reshaping more than waistlines, it's also reshaping faces and necks.

Experts are warning that rapid Ozempic-induced weight loss is leaving many people with a new cosmetic concern: the turkey neck.

What is Ozempic neck?

When weight is lost quickly, the fat that once supported the skin beneath the jawline and chin disappears faster than the skin can retract.

The result? Loose, sagging skin and visible banding around the neck a look now being dubbed Ozempic neck or turkey neck.

Dr Vivek Eranki, CEO of the Cosmetique franchise group, said the condition is becoming increasingly common across Australia.

"We're seeing a new aesthetic issue emerging as a by-product of rapid medical weight loss," Dr Eranki said.

"Patients are thrilled with their slimmer bodies but concerned about the loose, ageing appearance around the neck. The good news is, it doesn't have to stay that way and there are solutions that don't involve invasive and risky surgery.

"Cosmetic injectables is now the go to treatment for these types of issues."

Two treatment options

Dr Eranki explained that modern cosmetic injectables can effectively address this issue without surgery.

"If small fat pads remain under the chin or along the neck, practitioners can use Botox injections to relax the underlying muscle. This allows the skin to tighten and the neck to appear smoother and firmer," Dr Eranki said.

"If the fat pads are gone but loose skin remains, fat-dissolving injections are used to target any residual fatty tissue and tighten the surrounding skin, reducing sag and swing over time."

Dr Eranki emphasised that both treatments can be done during a lunch break and the effect is almost immediate.

"Both options can restore structure and contour," Dr Eranki said.

"The approach depends on whether there's fat left in the area or complete volume loss. Our goal is to re-establish firmness and definition without creating bulk."

A modern solution for a modern problem

Dr Eranki said the popularity of Ozempic and other medical weight-loss drugs has transformed cosmetic practice.

"We're treating people who have achieved incredible health results through weight loss but now need help refining and re-balancing their features," he said.

"Cosmetic injectables have become an important finishing touch, they complete the transformation and restore harmony to the face and neck."

Across South-East Queensland, Namrata Raiyani, registered nurse and franchise owner of Cosmetique Maroochydore, confirmed the same pattern.

"We're seeing more clients who have lost a lot of weight and want to firm the jawline or lift the neck," Raiyani said.

"Injectables give them a non-surgical way to tighten and tone so they can truly enjoy the results of their weight-loss journey."
