Greg Leslie is the Townsville business owner who goes the extra mile for North Queensland residents, near and far, travelling hundreds of kilometres to service remote communities in need.
Greg, who has helmed Battery World Townsville for 20 years this month, has made a name for himself as the 'Superpower' in Supercars territory, often embarking on 20-hour round trips to ensure his loyal customers are looked after.
"We believe there's more to running a small business than just selling product," Greg said. "It's about going above and beyond for your customers, no matter who or where they are.
"Our customer Matt Kennedy, who lives on a cattle station west of Richmond, has very limited access to resources and relies heavily on our products arriving on time - the least we can do is ensure we provide the best service possible.
"We try our best to look after everyone and never turn someone down. Whether that means travelling inland of Charters Towers or across the water to Magnetic Island, we will do it - there is no distance we won't travel."
Greg's longest trip has been 1,400km, and according to Matt, if it wasn't for Greg's ongoing support, he and his family wouldn't be able to sustain their station life.
"Whenever there has been an issue, Greg has always dropped everything to help us out," Matt said.
"Knowing Greg is willing to travel to the farm gives us that peace of mind that we're not alone when a problem arises."
The dedicated franchisee knows firsthand the importance of community support.
"The community has been incredibly generous and supportive of our family; we wouldn't survive without them. As business owners, we strive to give back to them just as much," he added.
"With the cost-of-living crisis impacting many, we know the importance every dollar holds.
"We're not interested in making a quick buck; we are committed to ensuring every customer is looked after the right way, whether that be in store or out on the road."
Greg and his team at Battery World Townsville are celebrating 20 years running the business on Ingham Road, and they'll be celebrating on 5 July, 2025, alongside former colleagues, friends and family at a function to be held at a venue on The Strand.
One of Greg's customers who has been a constant since the beginning of his tenure at the Townsville store, Greg Battle, said he knew Greg (Leslie) was worth his salt all those years ago and would go far when he agreed to leave a Buck's party to help with an urgent automotive job.
"I picked him up [from the party], we got the job done, and then I dropped him back … but by then everyone had left," Battle said with a laugh. "I knew then, he'd do me forever for my battery and automotive needs."
The 2025 NTI Townsville 500 Supercars round is scheduled for 11-13 July at Reid Park.
