WE Buchan welcomes new specialists

Verity Barritt comes aboard as account director for the agency’s investor communications team, bringing with her 16 years’ experience handling corporate support for ASX-listed SMEs.

The digital and social team will add account director Alex Mills, social media manager Nicola Hanlon, and in-house designer Katie Oliver. All three of them have varied work backgrounds. Mills formerly helmed campaigns by Optus for the Australian Olympic team and the English Premier League while working at We Are Social. Hanlon worked in Australia, Ireland, and England, designing and executing campaigns over social media, while Oliver does publishing, content marketing, and brand development.

WE Buchan’s healthcare industry department has Emma David as its new account director. She has amassed six years’ experience doing PR duties for drug and medical device manufacturers.

Havas wins SelfWealth representation

PR outfit Havas Melbourne has won a new work contract from share trading disruptor SelfWealth.

Under the deal, Havas will take on the creation of SelfWealth’s branding strategy, digital presence, and creative development. The account went Havas’ way after SelfWealth officials evaluated the agency’s credentials and methodology as appropriate to the fintech’s needs.

The partnership follows SelfWealth’s successful ASX listing last year. The firm is currently engaging on a new series of projects which includes pooling together a number of high-performance traders into developing a unique set of portfolios.

Ogilvy and Wotif embark on new campaign

WPP AUNZ agency Ogilvy has collaborated with travel company Wotif on a new project.

The project, called “The Next Big Thing,” is a PR/social media campaign designed to generate awareness for Wotif’s new Aussie For Travel brand platform.

The campaign aims to highlight an Australian town, city or suburb that has a new tourist attraction; the attraction will be considered in a nationwide list of over 150 unique Australian icons. WPP partners opr and Maverick are also providing support for the project.

Wotif will unveil the shortlist next week, with the final Big Things composition to be decided by public voting.

Mango welcomes fresh staff

PR and events agency Mango Melbourne has hired new personnel to aid with recent client expansions, as reported over at B and T.

Carol Laws comes in as account director, with nine years’ experience across a number of consumer brands in the US and Australia, such as a leading American entertainment company, a film studio, and a major Aussie supermarket chain.

Janette Henstridge recently left Attention + Influencer to join Mango as senior account manager. Her previous accounts included a top Australian telco.

Maddie Poulson recently returned to Australia from England, where she spent some time handling PR accounts for a number of luxury fashion brands.

Carter lands new INVNT directorship

Brand agency INVNT has opened a new global directorship for PR and marketing, with Brea Carter recruited for the spot.

Based at INVNT’s Sydney offices, Carter will be in charge of leading the agency’s promotional efforts from out of satellite branches in the APAC and EMEA regions, and North America. She will work alongside agency CEO Scott Cullather and APAC GM Laura Roberts. The move comes as INVNT prepares to handle more clients.

Carter wields journalism experience from Cirrus Media and the Haymarket Media Group in the UK before transitioning to marketing communications, starting with FreemanXP and The Cru Media + Communications while running her own service.

Missy Mischief and Mister Mischief land AACMA service deal

The Australian Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA) has awarded a services contract to joint outfits Missy Mischief and Mister Mischief.

As reported at Mumbrella, Missy Mischief will tackle the PR, communications, and marketing work for the association.

Mister Mischief is in charge of social media engagement, creative design, and photo-video production duties.

VMware lands former Spectrum GM

After almost 12 years at the Spectrum Group, Rachel Beauchamp (nee York) has gone in-house at technology firm VMware, as Australia and New Zealand communications manager.
Most recently, Beauchamp was general manager for Spectrum Group, having spent 12 years at Spectrum and sister agency Max Australia.
“I’d been with Max and then Spectrum for 12 years and one week, and in that time I had a range of roles and experiences, and it was a fantastic learning environment working with a lot of great clients and colleagues,” Beauchamp said.
While being part of the management team that guided Spectrum through its transition from traditional PR agency, to integrated communications services provider, was a rewarding experience, Beauchamp said she increasingly found herself wanting to get back to her roots.

WPP AUNZ digital agency Mirum Australia is celebrating the appointment of two new leadership positions this week.
The news comes shortly after Mirum first opened up shop in Sydney last month, bringing Evan Crompton on as service design director, and Rebecca Luiters as delivery experience director.
Crompton’s history includes work across a number of leading Australian brands, with his most recent post being user experience and service design consultant at Aptor Digital.
Luiters has experience with the likes of MRM/McCann, Adcorp, Wunderman and Draft FCB, most recently working as a senior digital producer at The Works.
Both Crompton and Luiters now form part of Mirum’s senior management team, reporting directly to Mirum’s MD Claire van Heyningen.
