Fresh concerns have emerged over the safety of media professionals in Tripura following successive attacks on senior journalists in the state over the past few days.  The first incident took place at Chakmaghat Purba Bazar under Teliamura police station limits. According to the victim, local residents staged a blockade on the Assam-Agartala National Highway demanding regular electricity and water supply. The protest reportedly caused traffic disruptions for nearly two hours. “Journalists who arrived to cover the demonstration were allegedly attacked by a group of people,” said Hironmay Roy who sustained injuries during the incident along with others.  A police complaint has been filed but journalists claim no significant action has been taken so far. Victorian community radio station 3APL Apple 98.5FM has announced on Facebook that it will cease broadcasting on Sunday, July 5, 2026, after nearly 40 years on-air. “While it is sad that the station is wrapping up, we are proud of all that 'The Voice Of The Valley' has accomplished,” a statement read. “We would like to thank all the volunteers, members, announcers, Committee members, technical people, sponsors, guests, Shire Council members and community groups who have been involved with the radio station over the decades. And we would especially like to thank the group of visionaries who founded “Bacchus Marsh Community Access Radio” in the mid-80s”.

The departure of TVNZ political editor Maiki Sherman has plunged the Land of the Long White Cloud into furious debate.
