Tiriman finishes ABC Radio service

In a farewell broadcast over Pacific Beat, Tiriman said she already has plans to come home to her loved ones in Papua New Guinea’s East New Britain province.
Tiriman is known for being one of the ABC’s hardened reporters. Having avoided an arranged marriage back home in Rabaul after finishing high school, she first applied for a clerical job at the Post and Telecommunications company in Port Moresby, then went for the ABC-founded National Broadcasting Commission studios.
A colleague later encouraged her to apply with the ABC and Tiriman eventually landed a job in 1979 as a reporter in her country’s national language of Tok Pisin. She would later relocate to Australia and cover stories ...
