President Murmu highlights AI’s impact on journalism at Ramnath Goenka Awards

President Droupadi Murmu presented the 19th Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards in New Delhi on March 19, 2025, emphasising the critical role of free and fair journalism in a democracy.
She stressed the need for a strong research wing to ensure news accuracy and called on media organisations to invest more in on-the-ground reporting. “If the citizens are not well-informed, the democratic processes lose their very meaning,” she said.
“These awards recognise and celebrate the best of our journalism. With this, we also honour the legacy of Ramnath Goenka, the founder of the Indian Express Group and a great icon of Indian media,” she further added.
