Manipuris remember N.K. Sanajaoba, the fearless voice of Manipur’s press

November 11, 2025, marked the 30th death anniversary of N.K. Sanajaoba, one of Manipur’s most fearless journalists, writers, and thinkers. Known widely by his pen name Thengra, Sanajaoba’s investigative writings in Lamyanba Journal gave a new direction to Manipuri journalism and inspired generations to speak truth to power.
Born on December 30, 1936, in Singjamei Wagam Kshetri Leikai, Imphal, Sanajaoba was a man of many talents — a journalist, teacher, broadcaster, scout leader, trade unionist, and cultural activist. He began his education at Khongman LP School and graduated from DM College, where he served as the magazine secretary and displayed an early passion for writing and public life.
