Guardian Australia on hunt for new political editor

Guardian Australia has taken the relatively unusual step of putting out a call for Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified journos for the position of political editor following confirmation the previous title holder, Karen Middleton, has departed the masthead.
The Sydney Morning Herald's Callum Jaspar has penned several stories on the situation, reporting not only Guardian Australia's silence since Middleton seemed to disappear from the masthead but also breaking the news when she announced her resignation on social media. That was followed by an email to staff from Guardian Australi editor Leonore who, in part, said, "I’m writing to let you know that Karen Middleton has resigned as political editor.
