Why storytelling is pulling journalists into PR
By Meena R. Prashant in Media News on Monday, 06th April 2026 at 8:19pm
The movement of journalists into public relations is not new, but it is becoming more visible and nuanced. While better pay and fewer deadlines have long been part of the conversation, many journalists today are drawn by something deeper: the chance to shape narratives and engage with storytelling differently in a rapidly evolving media landscape.
For Srishti Ghosh Shinde, PR, Communications and Public Affairs Lead at Tide India, the transition came after nearly a decade in journalism. Reflecting on her time in an English-language entertainment daily around 2016, she describes the shift as gradual rather than sudden. “It wasn’t a single moment, but a gradual realisation,” she says. “The nature of journalism was rapidly evolving, with speed becoming as critical as depth. It made me question whether I was able to contribute meaningfully in the way I wanted to.”
That realisation led her to look beyond reporting. “I wanted to build narratives more holistically rather th

Life of a Reporter on the Agricultural Beat
By Pavithra in Media News on Monday, 06th April 2026 at 4:09pm
The day for an agricultural reporter often begins before sunrise, on roads leading to villages where work in the fields is already underway. By the time cities wake up, the reporter is speaking to farmers, observing crops, and gathering stories shaped by uncertainty, resilience, and lived experience.
Agricultural reporting is closely tied to seasons. A good monsoon can uplift entire regions, while a dry spell can quietly affect hundreds of families. Stories range from water shortages to market prices, and for reporters, weather is not just background, it often becomes the story itself.
The work comes with its share of challenges. Remote locations, poor network connectivity, long travel hours, and unpredictable schedules are part of the routine. Often, reporting involves waiting for hours just to reach the right source. Yet, these moments add depth, as stories emerge directly from the ground.
What sets this beat apart is its human focus. Behind every statistic is a person, a family

A journalist goes to work. Chairs fly. He ends up in a hospital bed. And somewhere between the condemnation tweet and the morning scroll, we've already moved on. That's the story. Not the attack on News Tamil 24x7 reporter Rajesh in Karaikudi on March 23rd -- though that is disturbing enough on its own. The real story is the silence that swallowed it whole. The kind of silence that only happens when we've grown so accustomed to outrage that we've forgotten what accountability is supposed to look like.

A party functionary was speaking -- making allegations, it seems -- when the crowd turned. Not with words. With chairs. Hurled toward the stage. Journalist Rajesh, who was coordinating the event for News Tamil 24x7, was attacked in the chaos. He wa
