Karina Carvalho (photo credit: ABC)ABC Queensland presenter Karina Carvalho is stepping onto the national spotlight with a primetime anchor opportunity on ABC News, the network announced today.

ABC revealed that her final 7pm Queensland news bulletin will be on January 11, 2018, after which she will prepare for her first ABC News edition in Sydney on January 28. Louisa Rebgetz will be her interim replacement.

“It’s been a privilege to be invited into the living rooms of Queenslanders each weeknight for the last five years,” Carvalho said.

“I’m very much looking forward to my new role and bringing the day’s most important stories and breaking news to a national audience.”

A veteran of the BBC, Carvalho came over to ABC in 2007, first appearing before the camera as an ABC News WA presenter in Perth. She later cohosted News Breakfast with Michael Rowland before landing the QLD bulletin in 2013.
